Garage Door Safety
GARAGE DOORS can pose a significant safety hazard if certain precautions are not taken. An improperly installed, adjusted or poorly maintained door can exert deadly force and exposes bystanders to a high risk of injury or death as well as exposing property to serious and permanent damage. A properly installed and well maintained door will provide smooth and easy operation.
- Keep children, pets and bystanders away from the door while in operation and do not allow people to touch risky garage door surfaces or components, such as the edge of the track, that can lead to severe cuts or other injuries.
- Never let anyone, especially children, stand, walk, or play under a moving door. Always keep the path of the door clear and never leave a garage door unattended while in operation to avoid any personal injury or property damage. Garage doors have been known to crush people to death!
- Avoid driving in or out of a garage while the garage door is in operation.
- Never let children play with or use transmitters or other remote control devices. Always place them out of the reach of children and watch a moving door until it stops. Do not depend on safety beam sensors to stop or reverse the door!
- Never let children play or pets roam underneath or in the path of a door. Always tie pets a safe distance from a garage door and never secure them to the door or any of its component parts.
- Make sure the wall console is installed out of the reach of children and away from the moving parts. Keep items that children could climb to gain access to the controls away from the controls.
- Position the wall control so that you can see the door when activating the door.
