Garage Door Maintenance

Why and How to Maintain Your Garage Door

GARAGE DOOR MAINTENANCE is necessary to keep your door in top working order and will increase its useful lifetime. Neglecting the maintenance of your door may increase the risk of personal injury, death or property damage. Periodically inspect your garage door visually and test its operation on a monthly basis.

If you have identified a potential problem with your garage door, call Action Door at 770-740-9788 to have your door serviced by a professional.

Cables

Cables

Check the cables for signs of wear such as fraying or tension loss. Visually inspect the cable sheaves (doors with extension springs), rivets and bearings.

If the cables are frayed, they will soon break. Call Action Door for replacement of cables. If the cables are no longer taut, cease use of the operator immediately and contact Action Door for service. Continued use of the operator without service will result in damage to the operator.

Rollers

Track Rollers

Track rollers should rotate easily to provide smooth operation.

Lubricate the rollers with oil to restore smooth rotation.

Track

Track Brackets

Check the track alignments and assure that the track brackets have not worked loose or bent under stress or tension. The inside of the tracks should be clear of dirt and debris to allow a smooth and easy operation.

Clear dirt and debris from the tracks. Tighten bolts if they have come loose. Contact Action Door to replace bent or damaged track.

Roller Carrier

Hinges and Roller Carriers

Check the hinges and roller carriers for loose bolts, twisting or distortion. Inspect hardware bolts and fasteners, and make sure they are tight and secure.

Lubricate rollers and carriers with a light lubricant. Tighten bolts if they have come loose.

Torsion Spring

Springs

Inspect springs for any breaks. Each spring should be one long continuous piece of metal.

Never attempt to adjust your own springs. Extension and torsion counter balance systems are under heavy torque and tension and need to be serviced by a professional. Attempting to service your own springs may lead to personal injury, death, and serious permanent property damage. Contact Action Door at 770-740-9788 for any repairs, adjustment or repairs relating to the spring assembly of your door.
